Butterfly consevatiion area in Arunachal Pradesh mooted
Itanagar, Aug 28: A proposal to declare a 70-hectare area in Namboi reserve forest in Arunachal Pradesh as butterfly conservation area for the first time in India was made at a recent meet at Jairampur in Changlang district.
The five-day butterfly India meet, which ended on August 25, was held at Kamil village by Namchik Valley Society for Eco-tourism and Wildlife Conservation with Butterfly India Group.
According to the organiser, such conservation activities, organised for the first time in Northeast, should be recognised by the state govenment to educate the villagers about the significance of conservation of flora and fauna for promotion of tourism.
Butterfly lovers from Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Assam took part in the programme.
They identified around 100 species of butterfly and 200 species of moths, including some rare ones, during the meet.
